The fonds consists primarily of Gough's notes of her Ph.D. fieldwork in Kerala (1947-1949) and her return visit in 1964 as well as her major fieldwork in the Tanjore District (1950-1953) and then again in 1974. The fonds also includes lectures and other notes and typescript copies of articles. It also includes the complete manuscript for her last book, "Political Economy in Vietnam" (1990).

Kathleen Gough was born in England and trained as an anthropologist in both Cambridge and Oxford Universities. She received her Ph.D. in 1950. Her extensive research fieldwork in India (Kerala, 1947-1949) and (Tanjore District, 1950-1953) forms the basis for much of her subsequent published work.
